Pre purchase inspection: (For registered total loss-repaired vehicles only).

I cannot stress enough that this is an area that is fraught with so many hidden agendas and it is therefore essential that professional advice and experience is sought prior to purchase.

Total Loss Categories:

A: For vehicles totally or almost totally destroyed and are to be crushed.
B: For spares only. (although have been known to be put back on the road)
C: Repair costs exceed the vehicles pre-accident valuation.
D: Repair costs are less than the vehicles pre-accident valuation.
X: Stolen recovered vehicles with none or little damage.

Note: The present system in many instances does not indicate the actual level of damage sustained or estimated cost repairs. Subsequently, dependant of the vehicles valuation a category D registered vehicle may have sustained a significantly higher level of damage than that of a category C registered vehicle.

Example:

Vehicle A. Pre-accident value: £3,500.00. Repair costs: £4,000.00. Total loss status. C.

Vehicle B. Pre-accident value: £5,000.00. Repair costs: £6,000.00. Total loss status. C.

Vehicle C. Pre-accident value: £18,000.00. Repair costs: £12,600.00. Total loss status. D.

Vehicle D. Pre-accident value: £27,500.00. Repair costs: £19,250.00. Total loss status. D.
